Maintaining Your Mental Health

Dealing With Stress
Stress is a normal part of life. Stress provides us with energy, motivation and challenges that can be healthy and rewarding experiences. Stress becomes a problem when we are not sure how to handle an event or a situation, then worry sets in. On the other hand, we sometimes feel overwhelmed when we experience too many changes or demands all at once. As a result of negative stress, we feel tense, nervous, anxious, aggressive or panic stricken. Any one of these reactions can affect your physical or mental health. Finding an effective way to handle stress is important.

There are three types of stressors we can fall victim to:

MAJOR LIFE EVENTS:
getting married, changing jobs, moving, getting divorced or the death of a loved one.

LONG TERM WORRIES:
financial or economic problems, serious/chronic illness or concern about your children's future.

DAILY HASSLES:
traffic jams, rude people, or technical glitches
